MATCHES LAUNCH THEIR SUMMER 2012 DESIGNER CHARITY T-SHIRT PROJECT TO CELEBRATE BRITISH DESIGN WORLDWIDE, IN THIS VERY SPECIAL YEAR FOR THE NATION

The line up of the Matches Charity T-Shirt Range for The Dispossessed Fund

To celebrate all that is British this year – The London Games, The Queen’s Jubilee and British Design – and to support The Dispossessed Fund – the London Evening Standard’s charity that fights poverty in London – Matches are launching a collection of limited edition T-shirts, created by London’s most notable British designers.

For your chance to grab a limited edition designer item, Erdem, Holly Fulton, the designer and illustrator behind cult magazine ‘Herself’, Richard Nicoll, Roksanda Ilincic, Jonathan Saunders, JW Anderson and Mary Katrantzou, have all designed unique t-shirt prints for the project with the latter three offering menswear versions too.

The t-shirts will be sold exclusively at Matches stores and online at www.Matchesfashion.com from mid-July, with proceeds from sales being donated to The Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund. The fund, which was launched two years ago to tackle poverty in London, has raised £8.4 million to date and has distributed £3 million so far, to charitable and community-led projects across every borough in London via The Community Foundation Network.

Jonathan Saunders with his design: “London is the centre of attention at the moment with the Jubilee and Olympics right around the corner. Not to mention the fact it has become the epicentre of such innovative design, I’m just happy to be a part of it in my own way.”

Roksanda Ilincic says of her design: “Using signature pre-fall primary colours, I’ve created a graphic twist on the staple summer vest – an easy addition to any summer wardrobe.”

Ruth Chapman, CEO of Matches Fashion, says, “As a London based retailer with a wide range of International clients, we wanted to celebrate London in 2012 and asked some of our most creative and innovative British designers to partner with us on this project, which also gives something back to our city. I’m very proud of this beautiful collection of limited edition t-shirts and that with the proceeds we can support The Dispossessed Fund to fight poverty in London”.

It looks like the Brit pack had fun with the project. Young designer Holly Fulton approached the design process in a typically positive way. “When asked to create a design to sum up the London spirit for the action packed summer ahead, I immediately thought of what an exciting, optimistic time it is for the UK.  I wanted to incorporate my signature graphic approach and love of Art Deco, so created a stylised sunburst to represent the enthusiasm and energy that is being generated by London design right now and to encapsulate the fun that lies ahead!”

Richard Nicoll agrees with the sentiment.  “It’s an exciting year for Britain and it’s especially great to be a designer in London, given the incredible focus placed on this city.”
