To celebrate the return of Charlotte Olympia’s cult Kitty pump, we took a moment to ask the lady herself (Charlotte Dellal that is) about shoes and, erm, clay pigeon shooting.
What was the inspiration for the Kitty shoe?
I wanted to create a smoking slipper with a twist by replacing the usual monogram with something else. The embroidered cat face is subtle enough, but when you notice it it makes you smile. There is also a high wedge version, Tessa, that is named after the family cat I had as a child.
What are the three most important things you consider when designing shoes?
Silhouette, colour and desirability.
Is there such a thing as too high when it comes to heels?
I believe that balance is very important; I try to make sure my platforms make my very high heels walkable. I like my shoes to be worn throughout the day and into the night.
Tell us what to expect from the S/S12 collection?
Shoes mermaids would want to wear if only they had feet! Sea shells and mother-of-pearl feature throughout the collection.
Lastly, tell us something we don’t know about you?
I like to go shooting; I’ve started to have clay pigeon shooting lessons to become a better shot than my husband!
