She’s the up-and-coming face who we just had to shoot for our Richard Nicoll exclusive. Introducing Leona ‘Binx’ Walton – the model you need to know about. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Binx turned heads at fashion weeks back in February when a make-under revealed her strikingly natural look. Having walked a carefully selected handful of AW13 shows – including Marc Jacobs, Versace, Miu Miu and Giles – she’s tipped to be a shining star come SS14.

‘Binx is beautiful, but not in the generic sense. She has a toughness and boyishness, but it’s not overpoweringly androgynous, a look which people are definitely moving away from,’ reflects casting agent Adam Hindle, a man Nicoll relies on for the early heads-up on the hottest models. ‘We’ve gone through a phase of using very androgynous models – both men and women – and there’s a definite move away from that towards more fit and healthy looks, girls who are more naturally attractive but don’t look like ten other girls. Binx is that girl.’

We say Binx is the perfect match for Nicoll’s subtle approach to the androgynous trend which has become something of a signature style for the London-based designer – pared back and classic but clever, and with that frisson of edginess. That she’s a keen skateboarder and dancer (we hear it’s a regular face-off between African dance and hip-hop styles) just adds to her rock ‘n’ roll vibe which complements her relaxed demeanour and inspiring energy. It took her three years to get back to the model agent who spotted her six years ago, back in Tennessee: so, yes, it’s been a slow burn for Binx on the international stage, but boy, has she timed it right. Meet the face of the future.
