Matches Men’s Tailoring Week is in the safe hands of ultra-cool London label A. Sauvage for Day Three. We caught up with designer Adrien Sauvage’s not-so-silent partner, George Lamb, to find out just what suits the television presenter.
*What is your first memory of wearing a suit? My dad bought me a killer dinner suit for my uncle Wesley’s wedding in the early 80′s. It also doubled up as a perfect Jimmy White outfit for fancy dress parties.
*How did you get in to menswear? A couple of years back I was working with Adrien on my wardrobe for television. We were having a nightmare finding things we were into so we decided to make our own.
*Who is your all time sartorial hero? Richard Gere in American Gigolo
*What makes tailoring modern today? A.SAUVAGE
*What’s your favourite style era and why? Fellini era Italy: they weren’t messing around back then.
*Living or dead: who would you most like to see wearing one of your suits? Noam Chomsky.
*What’s your top tip for keeping a suit looking good and lasting a lifetime? Don’t dry clean it and hang it up whenever it’s not on your back.
*What is your most memorable style blunder? Is there photographic evidence? I had some properly moody white shoes and, if the truth be told, it wasn’t that long ago.
* What is your number one style rule? Steer clear of boot-cut jeans.
* What do you think defines a real gentleman? Keeping your word, opening doors and walking on the pavement on the outside of your lady.
*What’s your guilty pleasure? Milka Daim chocolate bars – danger!
* Single or double breasted? Double.
*Star Wars or Lord of the Rings? OB-1.
*What is the best gift you’ve ever received? A pair of Lanvin velvet slippers from Paris - given to me by an old girlfriend.
*What would you save from a burning building? Charlie Murphy, my dog.
