We just wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we didn’t have a total window display make-over to celebrate another fashion week in our home city.
As we loved the recent V&A exhibition, ‘Postmodernism: Style and Subversion 1970-1990′, we used it as a starting point for it’s rich and visual inspiration. Nathan Hicks, Head of Visual Merchandising explains, ‘it was a fascinating and dynamic era which has helped shape the world we live in and embodies an energy and vibrancy still potent today. We wanted to capture and communicate some key visual motifs across this period to create some super-bold visual statements.’
These include neon bulbed arrows and dollar signs, television screens, strips of colour perspex and scaffold towers. ‘The concept also links directly to one of the biggest trends of SS12, ‘New Neon’ which creates a powerful and iconic window display that translates through our in-store environment.’
Make this your excuse to come and see what’s going on in the windows and in store at Matches over the next few weeks.
Some of the amazing neon artwork was loaned to Matches by www.godsownjunkyard.co.uk.
